ENTROPY
I envision design as a resemblance of a thermodynamic system: it is just a measure of order in regards to equilibrium. Likewise, as a metaphor for life, albeit quite evident in our everyday lives, entropy is deemed as existence's natural shift towards a problematic chaos. Chaos, because its many manifestations often bring change, destruction, disorder, transformations of things that we as humans expect to be static, and as a result, view it as a negative factor instead of an opportunity for innovation.
Much like this Enneper shape on the left, changing a few values in its variables, results in a "deformed" figure. One that has lost its properties that defines it as such. If we can anticipate how, and when something will reach a state that it becomes what it was not, we then can plan, mitigate, and DESIGN ahead new purposes for this transformed entity.
